Student-Athlete Criteria
When students are considering Athletic Scholarships through the NCAA, two criteria must be met.
- Eligibility to play the sport, keeping amateur status
- Meeting academic standards that are set by the NCAA Eligibility Centre
Eligibility to Play -Keeping Amateur Status
In order for an athlete to keep amateur status the following guidelines must be adhered to be eligible for competition. The student athlete cannot:

- Contract with Professional teams
- Take a salary or sponsorship for participating in Athletics
- Accept Prize Money*
- Play with Professionals
- Try-out, practice or compete with a professional team
- Accept benefits from an agent or prospective agent
- Enter into an greement to be represented by an agent
- Accept any financial assistance based on athletic skills or participation

Academic Standards
Student athletes must meet academic standards in order to meet eligibility requirements for competition. These include:
- 16 core courses completed and appearing on his/her academic transcript
- SAT or ACT scores
- Grade point average, based only on the core courses required (grades 9-12)
